Winter Wear Drive for First Spanish Presbyterian Church’s Good Samaritan Project

Thank you for your generous gifts to the migrant families in the First Spanish Presbyterian Church’s community.  We delivered stuffed backpacks for elementary-aged children and youth, presents for infants and pre-schoolers, clothing donations, and a check from this month’s food offering to First Spanish on Thursday afternoon. Your gifts will help migrant families with needed supplies and gifts for Christmas.

Note: Please bring donations by Wednesday, November 20th as we plan to take them to First Spanish at the end of next week!

First Spanish Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn is in ministry with many of the Spanish-speaking migrants that have recently arrived in our city.  They have named this ministry the Good Samaritan Project.  They have expanded their pre-existing Deacons’ Closet to meet the needs of this community.  They will be needing winter jackets and coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and boots—sizes children to adult.  If you have winter wear in good condition, please bring it to the coat closet off the Church House Lobby over the next couple of weeks.  We have volunteers who can deliver the items.  Please make sure all items are clean and in good condition!! Gently worn items are fine--a good guideline is “would I give this to a family member to wear?”

Many of the migrants to the city come from warm climates and are not used to cold weather--winter wear will be much needed and appreciated.

Two Sundays ago the monthly Food Offering received $750 which the Session voted to give to the Good Samaritan Project to help fund their Sunday meal.  On alternating months, the Food Offering will support our Open Table meal on Thursday evenings, and the meal at First Spanish on Sundays. Thank you for helping to care for our neighbors!
