NYCCC is Back: A 2020-2021 Recap

Intermezzo rehearses on the Roof Garden in Fall 2020

Intermezzo rehearses on the Roof Garden in Fall 2020

So much has changed since we last updated you in February 2020. In March 2020, we quickly moved all operations online and finished the season via Zoom. Our staff and the staff at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church spent the summer of 2020 studying all of the spaces in the building, updating HVAC systems, installing air purifiers and sanitizing stations, measuring six feet in all directions, and came to the conclusion that we could safely reopen in the fall.

And what a season it was! I am proud to say that we had zero transmissions after a full season of in-person rehearsals and performances. Thank you to our families for trusting us to keep your children safe and singing. Now our 10th season is underway with all choirs rehearsing together in person! It is a joy to hear the sound of our choirs ringing through the air, and we look forward to seeing you at one of our concerts this fall. – Mary

To safely celebrate the end of the season, In Harmony, Concert Choir, and Allegro hit the road on double-decker bus tours of our beloved NYC. Our choristers serenaded onlookers from Times Square to Chinatown. Since we couldn’t visit our friends at Terence Cardinal Cooke or Mary Manning Walsh this year, we brought the show to them with outdoor performances for the residents to hear from their windows!

Virtual Choir Performances

With live performances on hold, musicians around the country quickly pivoted to virtual concerts. Choristers and staff developed new skills such as self-taping and video editing and managed to produce two virtual concerts, “Blue Skies” and “Over the Rainbow.” We also brought some holiday cheer to the nation with a virtual performance of “O Come, All Ye Faithful” on NBC’s TODAY Show. If you missed one of these performances, all can be found on our website > or subscribe to us on YouTube at the NYC Children’s Chorus at MAPC for more content.

Christmas in New York CD Receives National Recognition

NYCCC is the winner of the national competition, The American Prize, in Choral Performance (Youth Division) and is a finalist for the Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music for Christmas in New York. In celebration of this and last year’s Grammy nomination, In Harmony will hit the streets with a mini-tour for this acclaimed album.

See Save the Dates for more information on tour appearances. And if you haven't yet purchased a copy of the CD, visit our website > to make a purchase. They also make great stocking-stuffers and secret Santa gifts.
