Black History Month: Come to the Hood Library This Sunday for Books to Help You Celebrate

February’s Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans across U.S. history and society. The Hood Library invites you to borrow books in our collection on various aspects of Black history, including the arts, the 2024 theme of Black History Month.

Read the latest biography on Martin Luther King Jr., by Jonathan Eig, or Michelle Obama’s The Light We Carry. Borrow Brendan Slocumb’s novel, The Violin Conspiracy. Or borrow former MAPC member Kekla Magoon’s Revolution in Our Time: The Black Panther Party’s Promise to the People. The essay collection, Sacred Shelter: Thirteen Journeys of Homelessness and Healing, includes a piece by Dawn Ravella, former director of outreach at MAPC. There’s also Caste by Isabel Wilkerson, the book that the new documentary Origin is based on.
