August Pastoral Staff Letter

Dear Friends,

“Time flies when you’re having fun.”

If there is any truth to this old adage, my summer has been spectacular. June and July flew by at warp speed, and August has already arrived. With September barreling our way, here are some dates you might want to go ahead and put on your calendar.

Enjoy the photos of our Roof Garden picnic last month

Sunday, September 12: On this 20th anniversary we will commemorate the horror and loss of 9/11 in our 10:30 worship service.

Sunday, September 12: Following worship we will hold an in-person Inquirer’s Class for all those who want to learn more about MAPC. Lunch will be served!

Sunday, October 17: Did someone say bounce house? Drawing from MAPC’s history, we are going to hold a block party! (Yes, many years ago we held an annual festival on 73rd.) We plan to close down 73rd Street, set up a large tent, and have games and activities for all ages.  We want our neighbors to know that we are here, and that we care about them. Help us get the word out!

Sunday, October 24: The Presbytery of New York City will ordain Chesna Hinkley in an afternoon worship service at MAPC. This is one of the most meaningful moments in the life of a pastor, and we have a wonderful opportunity to participate in this celebration.

Sunday, October 31: The Reverend Mark Tidsworth will join us this weekend. He is the author of several books including, Shift. We will read Shift this fall and reflect on his observations about the seismic shifts that are taking place in the church in North America.  How might we use his insights to strengthen the ministry and witness of MAPC? He will also provide training for the staff, and, hopefully, for elders, deacons, and trustees.

Sunday, November 7:  We will host an online Inquirer’s Class for all who are curious about MAPC.

Sunday, November 14: Stewardship Sunday. We will welcome Kirianne Weaver to our pulpit as we serve God by making our financial commitment to MAPC for 2022.

Thinking of you,

Patrick
