RJTF | Juneteenth Tour
Come join in for MAPC’s Juneteenth Walking Tour this coming Monday, June 19th beginning at 11 am. Juneteenth commemorates June 19th , 1865 when the last known enslaved peoples in Texas were told they were free. The tour will take place in lower Manhattan in the Bowling Green, Wall Street, Broadway areas, and will last for 90 minutes or thereabouts, after which we will enjoy a delicious lunch close by with those who are able to stay.
We will tread on lands lived on by Native Americans 10,000 years before Europeans arrived, think about the beginnings of chattel slavery, learn how our financial and industrial might came to be, and see sites we may have passed by before, but now can view with fresh eyes. We’ll even learn the roles Presbyterians played in this pivotal time in American and New York City history. We will conclude the tour at the African Burial grounds and then gather for a casual meal in the neighborhood.
Meeting Spot: 11 am Monday, June 19th - National Museum of the American Indian, 1 Bowling Green. #4/5 trains to Bowling Green stop; #1 train to either Rector or South Ferry stop.
