Saint Andrew Music Society: Announcing our 53rd Season

The Saint Andrew Music Society's 53rd Season has been announced and the season brochure has been sent to the printers! You can peruse all fifteen concerts taking place this season on our website, ranging from performances by our very own choral society - the Saint Andrew Chorale & Orchestra; MAPC's community children's chorus program - the New York City Children's Chorus; students from The Juilliard School, Mannes College, and the Manhattan School of Music; and a host of recitals featuring pianists, violinists, and chamber ensembles.

Thank you for the Food Offering!

Thanks to all who participated in the Food Offering on August 6! We collected $279, whilch will all be used to offset the rising costs of our various feeding ministries here at MAPC. The next Food Offering will be received Sunday, September 3. If you missed this opportunity to donate, you can also make an online gift anytime by selecting "Food Offering" beside the gift amount you designate. Thank you!

Thursday Shelter Dinner Program and Men's Shelter Need Your Help

As many members take vacations in August, our regular outreach programs are struggling to find sufficient volunteers.

Due to the decline in available volunteers, our Shelter Dinner program will be serving bag lunches starting next week and through the end of August, unless we have several new volunteers come forward. Would you be willing to help setup and to serve a meal to those who are food-insecure in our community? Volunteers are asked to arrive on Thursday nights at 6 pm. Please contact Kathy Hoffman at to sign-up, or for more information.

Our shelter program is also struggling to find sufficient volunteers. Last summer, we were forced to close for about half the summer and reduce the days we were open for other parts of the summer; our leaders are working hard to keep the schedule filled. Would you be willing to provide evening hospitality to up to twelve homeless men or to spend the night with them? Guests are screened before arrival, and our overnight host has a locked room in which to sleep. If you would be willing to serve in this way, please contact Andy Smothers at or 212-288-8920.

    Hood Library Summer Checkout

Remember you can check books out of the Hood Library for the duration of the summer! They are not due until the Sunday after Labor Day, September 10. Please come browse the shelves and check out some summer reading! You may check out books whenever you are in the building, signing them out in the notebook on the desk. The Hood Library is sure to have something for everyone--fiction, biography, history, current events, and religious/spiritual books.

This October marks the 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther nailing 95 Thesis onto the door of Wittenberg Castle in Germany, which sparked the Protestant Reformation. We hope you will join us this fall from 10:10 am to 11:00 am as we celebrate the ways God has moved throughout history, is at work today, and calls the church into the future!
