Rev. Dr. Beth Shalom Hessel
The Reverend Dr. Beth Shalom Hessel is the Executive Director of the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia and an Associate Stated Clerk of the Office of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A fourth-generation ordained Presbyterian minister, Beth pastored Presbyterian and Disciples of Christ congregations around the country and taught in colleges before completing her Ph.D. in U.S. History at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She is a popular lecturer, teacher, and preacher at churches, presbyteries, and conferences as the leader of the oldest and largest Protestant denominational archives in America and continues to research, write, and publish on topics related to American religious history, and the intersections of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, and society in particular. Beth is an avid gardener, sometimes runner, and proud mother of two incredible kids, Isaac and Lydia.
