Jenny McDevitt has served Senior Pastor and Head of Staff at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church since April 2018. She delights in the long, rich history of the congregation and the fast-paced wonder of New York City. A storyteller at heart, Jenny loves preaching. She’s even happier, however, listening to a good story, especially if it’s yours.
Prior to MAPC, Jenny served at Village Presbyterian Church outside of Kansas City as Pastor of Pastoral Care for six years. She was ordained at First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she began in ministry back in 2009. She joined the Presbyterian church during college after growing up Catholic. She earned her undergraduate degree in creative writing from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. That degree is put to good use as she writes liturgy for national conferences and large gatherings on a regular basis (in addition to every Sunday in NYC). She went on to earn her M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.
Jenny reads voraciously, runs slowly, hopes relentlessly, and drinks too much coffee. She has two dogs, one of whom accompanies her to church several times a week. Annie the Black Lab excels at pastoral care and stealing staff lunches. Jenny strives to take the gospel very seriously and to take herself less seriously. It’s a work in progress.
