The Reverend Paula Cooper, The Phillips Talbot Global Ministry Fellow (PTGMF), was born in Beckley, West Virginia, and was raised in Philadelphia, PA. Paula has two brothers and two sisters, and is the single parent of a 41 year-old daughter, Goodness Cooper.
Paula was ordained an elder in 1988. As an elder, she served both Tioga Presbyterian Church and Holy Trinity-Bethlehem Presbyterian (in 1991, Tioga and Holy Trinity merged) as chair of their Worship and Christian Education Committees, organized their multi-aged choirs, and served as their youth directors. In 1999, she organized and begun Holy Trinity’s teen ministry.
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary graduated Paula in 2010 with her Master of Divinity degree, with a graduate certificate in Urban Ministry, and in 2013 with a Master of Sacred Theology degree. In 2014, she was ordained a Minister of the Word and Sacrament. She has served as the designated pastor of Curby Memorial Presbyterian Church for the past three years.
She writes, "I am humbled and grateful to have the opportunity to continue to serve God as the Phillips Talbot Global Ministry Fellow for Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. As I stated in my essay answer, I expect to be used by God to bring the Word of Reconciliation to those whom God has given ears to hear and eyes to see. I expect to learn, as well as, teach leaders who have been called, and who have willingly answered that call. In addition, I expect to be a witness for Christ even in the remotest part of the earth: Acts 1:8."
